Outreach Activities
During my freshman year at Clemson, I participated in an organization called Student Ambassadors of Global Engagement (SAGE). Part of my participation in this group entailed meeting with an international graduate student once a week and offering conversational English practice. Two years later, during the summer after my junior year, I went on to obtain my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, and completed twenty hours of online student teaching with students from Kansai University in Japan and virtual observation of English classes taking place in Cairo, Egypt. In the Fall semester of my senior year, I worked with another Chinese graduate student to provide conversational English practice for an hour or more each week. This became a bit of a language exchange because she speaks Mandarin (which I am learning) and I speak English (which she was studying).
